Seattle Writes: Neighbors – poetry for the masses

Seattleites: Check out this Poet Populist Seattle page, and write your own piece of poetry. here are the details:

Seattle Writes

2009 Poet Populist Mike Hickey has conceived of the “Seattle Writes” program, which invites every citizen young and old to write a poem on the theme of NEIGHBORS. Poets must be residents of King County, Washington State.

You can read from the submitted poems, or write your own. My submission goes something like this…

Neighbors

Sometimes, friends. Others, enemies.
Through good times, through bad times.
Long term or short term, they are always there.
Neighbors.
When friends, welcome conversation.
When times are good, open parties.
When long term, many details are understood.
Neighbors.
When enemies, hardly seen and avoided.
When times are bad, little contact.
When short term, missed without loss or sorrow.
Neighbors.
Always there, always a part of the scene.
When one looks for someone else to talk to,
A neighbor can often be found right outside your door.
Neighbors.
