The Wonderful World of Wendy

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - WOW - what a ride!!

Stephen's retirement home is now complete!

The shed is complete! Posted by Picasa

Okay, it took a few months, but we now have the most awesome shed built in our back yard and it was nearly painless on our part. We picked up the blue prints at McLendon's and our friend and neighbor Steve Richmond was conveniently available so we hired him to build it. Now, he's not exactly an experienced builder, or even blue print reader - and I know this project really strained his brain at times. Stephen helped a bit, and they conferred a lot every step of the way. But he has done an AWEsome job and built a high-quality, beautiful asset for our property.

This "shed with clerestory" is 10 feet by 12 feet, the largest we could go without the hassle of getting a building permit. It's located where the blackberry bramble and shrub pile used to be. So some small animals and spiders are missing their homes, but we were in such dire need of something like this (since we don't have a garage) the sacrifice had to be made.

The first native plant installation has taken place - perhaps you can see the row of sword ferns along the left side of the shed. This will help with rain splash, not to mention look very nice from the street.

Thanks for doing such a great job, Steve Richmond! You've built something you can be real proud of. I will say I am glad it's at my house and not yours - as I am sure you're kinda wishing it was at your house instead!
