The Wonderful World of Wendy

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - WOW - what a ride!!

The war on work

Here is a video by Mike Rowe, the host of "Dirty Jobs" on the Discovery Channel. It was released on Labor Day, but the message is still current since we have a terrible economic situation. I was always expected to go to college, and I normally make a living in an office environment. Now I look to the future and want to find my place in the new "green collar" economy. I am afraid, tho, that most of those jobs are going to be demanding physical jobs, and it will be difficult for someone of my background to find a job going forward.

I watch the "Dirty Jobs" show in awe, because it is true, I can not imagine ever doing any of the jobs he has ever shown on the show. And I grew up playing in the dirt in the country.

Mike has some good comments here, and I think we should all try to find a way to save America by being more open minded and respectful of different kinds of jobs.
